Privacy Policy
What PepTech collects, why, who else sees it, and how to ask us to delete it.
Who we are
PepTech operates peptech.us and sells research compounds for in-vitro laboratory use. For any question about this policy or about your information, write to support@peptech.us.
What we collect
Information you give us
When you create an account, place an order or contact us, we collect your name, email address, shipping and billing address, mobile telephone number, the contents of your order, and the text of any message you send us.
Accounts have no password. To confirm your email address and to sign you in, we email you a six-digit code. With each order we record the research-use confirmations you tick at checkout and when your email address was last verified.
Email list
If you ask to receive updates from us, we collect the email address you submit and the fact that you asked. No order is required, and an address given for updates is not used to create an account.
Payment information
PepTech does not take card details on this website. After you place an order, we send a secure payment link by text message to the mobile number you gave at checkout. The link opens a payment page run by our payment processor, Square, and your card details go directly to Square. To create and send the link, we give Square your name, your mobile number, the order amount and a short description of the order by product code. PepTech does not receive or store full card numbers; we see whether a payment succeeded and what Square reports back to us for reconciling the order.
Information collected automatically
Our web host and its content delivery network record standard server logs for every request: IP address, browser user-agent string, the page requested and a timestamp. These are used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults.
With each order, WooCommerce also records the IP address and browser used to place it, and how you arrived at the site - for example the referring website or the campaign tags in a link - taken from the order-attribution cookies described below.
Unfinished orders
If items are left in a cart without an order being placed, the store keeps a record of that cart and, where you had signed in or begun to fill in checkout, the name, email address and phone number entered, so that we can see orders that were started but not finished. It is not used to send automated reminder messages.
Cookies and tracking
As of the date at the top of this page, peptech.us uses these cookies:
Researcher confirmation (pt_researcher_ack_v3) - remembers for 30 days that you confirmed the researcher statements, so they are not asked on every page.
Cart and session (wp_woocommerce_session_*, woocommerce_items_in_cart, woocommerce_cart_hash) - keep your cart and your place in checkout, including a sign-in code while you are entering it.
Sign-in (wordpress_logged_in_* and related WordPress cookies) - keep you signed in to your account after you enter a code. Our caching layer may also set a technical cookie so that signed-in visitors see the right version of a page.
Order attribution (sbjs_*) - set by WooCommerce to note how you arrived at the site, such as the referring website, campaign tags in the link and device type, and attached to an order if you place one.
Google Analytics (_ga and _ga_* ) - set by Google Analytics to count visits and tell one visit from another. They last up to two years and are described under Third-party services below.
Third-party services
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It is the only third-party service that runs on the site: everything else - every stylesheet, font and image, and every other script - is served from peptech.us itself. We use no advertising services, and the site carries no advertising.
Google Analytics loads a script from googletagmanager.com and sets its own cookies, listed above. It reports pages viewed, approximate location from the IP address, the referring website, and the device and browser type. It does not receive your name, email address, telephone number, postal address or order contents, and we do not send it purchase or revenue data. Google processes this information as described at policies.google.com/privacy. We have not switched on Google's advertising features, so this data is not used to build advertising profiles or to target ads, and it is not sold.
To opt out of Google Analytics on every site that uses it, Google publishes a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking cookies, or using a browser or extension that blocks analytics, also stops it, and nothing on this site depends on it working.
Some pages link to other websites - certificates of analysis hosted by the independent testing laboratory, and reference entries on PubChem. Nothing is loaded from those sites unless you open the link, and their own privacy practices apply once you do.
If we add advertising or other third-party content in future, this policy will be updated before it is switched on.
How we use your information
To take, fulfill and ship your order, and to contact you about it.
To send your verification and sign-in codes, and your payment link.
To answer questions you send us.
To detect and prevent fraud and abuse.
To meet legal, tax and record-keeping obligations.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Email and marketing
There are two different kinds of email from PepTech, and they are not governed by the same choice.
Transactional messages
Transactional messages are the ones an order cannot work without: your verification or sign-in code, order confirmations, payment receipts, dispatch and tracking notices, and replies to something you asked us. These are sent because you asked us to do something, not to market to you, and they are not promotional. They cannot be unsubscribed from while you have an active order or account, because they are how we tell you what is happening with it.
Promotional messages
Promotional messages are things like new lot releases, newly published certificates and restock notices. Where you have asked for them, or where the law otherwise permits us to send them to an existing customer, we may send promotional email to the address you gave us. We do not sell or rent your email address, and we do not send promotional email on behalf of anyone else.
How to stop promotional email
Every promotional message carries an unsubscribe link, and using it stops promotional email to that address. You can also write to support@peptech.us and ask to be removed, which has the same effect. Unsubscribing from promotional email does not stop transactional messages about an order you have placed.
We keep a record of an unsubscribe request so that the address is not added again by mistake.
Text messages
Your payment link is sent by text message to the mobile number you give at checkout, which you agree to when you place the order. Shipping-update texts are sent only if you ask for them at checkout. We do not send marketing text messages. Message and data rates may apply.
Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with the parties that make the site and an order work:
The shipping carrier, which receives your name and delivery address.
Square, our payment processor, which receives your name, mobile number, the order amount and a product-code description to send your payment link and take payment.
Our email service provider, which delivers verification codes and order emails.
Our web host and its content delivery network, which store and serve the site and keep its server logs.
Google, which receives the analytics information described under Cookies and tracking - never your name, address, telephone number or order.
Law enforcement or a regulator, where we are legally required to respond.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as we are required to hold them for tax and accounting purposes. Correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful for support, and server logs are kept on a short rolling window by our host. You can ask us to delete anything we are not legally required to retain.
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, or to delete it. Residents of California and of other states with comparable privacy laws have these rights by statute, and we extend the same handling to everyone who asks.
Send the request to support@peptech.us from the email address on the order. We may need to confirm your identity before acting, and we will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and access to order records is limited to the people who need it to fulfill orders. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
Children
This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. You must be at least 21 years old to order from PepTech.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes to how we handle your information will be described here rather than made silently.
